West Melbourne is actually a city and not a section of Melbourne, Fl. It was established in 1959 to avoid annexation into the City of Melbourne and to avoid levying of ad valorem taxes. As of 2020, the Census reports West Melbourne had a population of 25,924. Since creation, the City expanded services to citizens including improved waste water treatment, disposal and reuse facility, law enforcement protection program, recreational facilities, building department, and road and drainage maintenance.
